Special Announcement: When can we expect the 104(b) Request for Pre-proposals this year?

Special Announcement: When can we expect the 104(b) Request for Pre-proposals this year?

The Arkansas Water Resources Center is adjusting the timing of the selection process for 104(b) research projects for the next funding cycle (FY2023) to reflect recent changes to the program at the national level.

The matching funds requirement has also been reduced to 1:1, or one non-federal dollar in match for each dollar of requested federal funding. We hope this substantial reduction from the prior 2:1 match ratio will make 104(b) funding accessible for a wider range of institutions across Arkansas.

We expect the project period for FY2023 to be September 1, 2023 – August 31, 2024. The preceding two annual cycles ran from September 1 through the following August, and the USGS intends to manage the program this way through FY2025.

The AWRC anticipates publishing our Request for Pre-proposals (RFP) in mid-September, with a due date in late October and notifications of final project selections in mid-December. As always, 104(b) funding is contingent upon federal appropriations.

Pre-proposals to the AWRC will include the same components as in previous years, and project funding caps remain at $35,000 for faculty and $10,000 for students. Investigators who plan to apply can get a head start using the RFP from last year.

Please contact the 104(b) program manager Erin Grantz (egrantz@uark.edu) with any questions.
