U.S. EPA Calls for Grant Proposals on PFAS
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the availability of $4.8 million in funding for new research on per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in agricultural and rural communities.
Eligibility is reserved for public and private nonprofit organizations and colleges/universities in the United States.
The deadline to submit application materials is February 11, 2020.
PFAS are a broad group of human-made chemical compounds that have been used extensively in a variety of applications, from non-stick pots and pans to firefighting foams. However, evidence suggests that these compounds can have negative consequences to human health and the environment.
This call for proposals aims to expand the current understanding of the potential impacts of PFAS on water quality and availability in agricultural and rural communities. According to EPA, research proposals should address PFAS occurrence, fate, and transport in water sources, as well as improved treatment methods for drinking water and wastewater systems.
