Summer Research Opportunity for Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students have an opportunity to make some great money and gain valuable experiences next summer by participating in the Ecosystem Services Research Experience for Undergraduates (EcoREU) at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. The program runs for 10 weeks during the summer, and students receive a total of $5,500 plus food stipends and free housing.
EcoREU is an excellent program for students who are interested in doing research about environmental systems and sustainability. This program offers great opportunities for students, with guidance from their faculty mentor, to work through the scientific process, from developing a research question to writing reports and presenting their results. Students from any college or university around the country can apply to the EcoREU program, and no prior research experience is required.
While it is important to know that this is a relatively intensive program, students leave with new knowledge, confidence, and even lifelong friends and mentors. Some students even end up doing graduate research with their EcoREU adviser!
The program is administered by University of Arkansas research faculty, led by Dr. Michelle Evans-White in Biological Sciences and co-administered by Dr. Brian Haggard, Arkansas Water Resources Center director and professor of Biological and Agricultural Engineering. The National Science Foundation funds this program, along with many other REUs around the country.
