Students Can Win Travel Money by Creating Video about Macrophytes
The North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) is seeking student-produced videos related to “Macrophytes”. Videos will be judged according to a rubric and the winner(s) will receive a $500 travel award to the annual NALMS conference, an award and recognition at the conference, and promotion on the NALMS website, YouTube channel, and social media.
Videos must be less than 10 minutes long and cover the following information:
- Explanation of major macrophyte groups
- Role of macrophytes in structuring habitat in lakes
- Explanation of macrophyte collection and identification
- Appropriate tools for control or removal of nuisance macrophytes
- Positive and negative effects of macrophyte removal in lakes and reservoirs
The winning video on macrophytes will be the latest installment of the NALMS video series. The NALMS student video series is designed to help teach citizen scientists, students, and the general public about lake management, the equipment used to monitor lake processes, and how to make limnological equipment.
