AWRC Publishes Report and Water-Quality Data for the Poteau River Watershed

The Arkansas Water Resources Center recently published a technical report and the associated water-quality data from samples collected in the Poteau River Watershed. This water-quality data report is the newest of several water-data reports available online that can be used by a variety of people including students, researchers, non-profit groups, government agencies, and other interested people. Data reports are published as Microsoft Excel files for fast and easy access.

The Poteau Valley Improvement Authority contracted with the Water Center to collect water samples at 26 sites on streams in the Lake Wister Watershed, which is part of the larger Poteau River Watershed. The Center also collected water samples at select additional sites to better identify “hot spots” where nutrients, sediments, and salts may occur in high concentrations. The project began in July of 2016 and is ongoing, while the report includes data from the first year of the project. You can find out more about this project here.

Many state and federal agencies are encouraging, and in some cases requiring improved access to information for the public, and the AWRC aims to be a leader in this effort. The Center’s website can also be a platform for other organizations to share data and project reports with the public. Email Erin Scott, AWRC program manager, for more information.
