AWRC Produces Exciting Water-Quality Video
The Arkansas Water Resources Center teamed up with a videographer to produce a “how-to” video on water-quality sampling. The video describes how people can properly collect a water sample from a pond and submit the sample to the water quality lab, which is open to the public.
The video stars our own Dr. Brad Austin and Ph.D. student Abbie Lasater, with cameos from lab staff Keith Trost and Brina Smith.
Pond water can be used for many different purposes including watering livestock, irrigating crops, filling aquaculture ponds, and more. Pond water should be tested periodically to ensure the water quality is acceptable for its given use.
The video details the materials you need, how to collect a sample while avoiding contamination, how to store and deliver your sample to the Lab, and how you can understand what your results mean using information provided by the Water Center.
We cover all the necessary information in the 6-minute long video to help you collect a proper water sample. Six minutes seems like a lifetime this day in age, so we’ve included links that can take you directly to a part of the video that you might need to re-watch.
A big thanks goes to Nick Kordsmeier, Video Content Specialist with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Communications Department for producing this video. “Collaborating with the AWRC is a great example of ways the [Division] works to enhance its services to partners and the public,” Nick says. “This video can help everyone understand how to collect a water sample and simplify the entire process for AWRC clients.” Nick’s creativity and dedication can be seen in the outstanding quality of the video.
